Remington XM2010 RACS vs Cadex

I always find it quite interesting as to what the predominant questions are that come from the contact pages at any of my websites. In the case of this website Modular Rifle I think all of the questions except for one have in one way or another pertained to The Remington RACS Chassis and variants used on the Remington Military Sniper Rifle XM2010 (currently known as the Remington M2010) and it’s visually similar but mechanically different siblings the Remington MSR, Remington PSR and the Remington CSR.

There’s is quite a bit of confusion about the Remington RACS and Cadex Chassis Systems which is completely understandable. Remington Military isn’t very forthcoming with information and Cadex Defence is evolving their modular rifle and chassis lineup with impressive speed.  Maybe we can sort some of it out with our guide below.

WHAT IS REMINGTON RACS?

Remington RACS vs Cadex Dual Strike

Remington RACS vs Cadex

What is Remington RACS?

RACS is the acronym for the Remington Military “Remington Accessory Chassis System” . The Remington RACS was developed by a joint effort between Remington Military and Cadex Defence.

The patent pending Remington Accessory Chassis System (RACS) incorporates state-of-the-art operator-defined attributes such as a free-float tubular design and a fully featured front handguard section. Operator selectable auxiliary rail sections in various lengths can be attached to any of the seven remaining facets of the octagonal handguard, which allows the operator to install clip-on in-line night vision systems. The folding RACS buttstock provides the operator with a wide variety of adjustments to allow setting the system to suit the shooter and the operating conditions.

Now the above all sounds good right? Remington also refers to the RACS as “Remington Arms Chassis System” The Remington Military website uses both variations. It took me a few minutes to realize the difference

Are Remington Defence RACS the Same as Cadex Defence Chassis?

Observant shooters have noticed that the Remington RACS closely resembles Cadex Defense Chassis. This makes perfect sense. The Original Remington XM2010 was developed by a partnership between Remington Military and Cadex Defence.

What Cadex Chassis did the Remington XM2010 sniper rifle use? The Cadex Dual Strike is the closest match but not identical.

What’s Better Remington RACS or Cadex Dual Strike? Cadex has been upgrading the Dual Strike pretty regularly. At this time Cadex is on their 4th generation Dual Strike. Remington Military has made no publicly known changes to the RACS since release. While I can’t say first hand which is better but I will be putting my money down on the Cadex. The Cadex is also less expensive then the Remington.

Remington Defense Chassis System versus Remington Accessory Chassis System

Remington Defense Chassis System versus Remington Accessory Chassis System

The Remington Arms Chassis System refers to the Remington RACS on a complete Remington M2010/XM2010 ESR Enhanced Sniper Rifle when bought or fielded as a package.

The Remington Accessory Chassis System version of the RACS is how Remington Military refers to the RACS when purchased as an accessory and without a barreled action. Remington only list this as being available in sort action.

Now my take is the Remington Military website is simply out of date. EuroOptic list the RACS as being available in 300 Winchester Magnum, Remington 700 Long Action.

MULTIPLE VERSIONS OF REMINGTON RACS

There are multiple versions of Remington RACS. The RACS chassis that is used in the XM2010, M2010 Sniper Rifle and the RACS chassis’s used in the Remington MSR, CSR and PSR Sniper Rifles.

Remington MSR, CSR and PSR RACS versus Cadex Chassis Systems

The Remington RACS Chassis in use on the Remington Defense Modular Sniper Rifle “MSR” and Remington Defense MK21 Precision Sniper Rifle “PSR” use a proprietary bolt action receiver and interchangeable barrels. This Remington RACS chassis in not compatible with any other receiver or barreled action. This RACS Chassis will not accept a Remington 700 receiver or barreled action.

Compatibility Guide – Remington RACS vs Cadex Chassis

The Remington RACS is only compatible with the Remington 700 and Remington 700 clone long and short actions. On the other hand the Cadex line of Chassis is compatible with the following brands of rifle actions (not all chassis, not all rifle models).

  • Sako TRG
  • Stiller Tactical
  • X-Treme
  • Savage
  • Tika T3
  • McMillan
  • Surgeon 591, 1086 and 1581

MDT ESS CHASSIS SYSTEM | MDT RIFLE STOCK

MDT ESS Chassis Installed on a Rifle

The ESS Chassis retains the MDT proven V-block bedding system to form a solid and reliable base for the rifle action. The magazine well has been refined for easy insertion of the magazine, while reducing rattle and movement. The tab style magazine release has been replaced with a semi-flush ambidextrous paddle that can easily be activated by a weak or strong hand. The recoil lug mortise has been designed to accommodate most aftermarket recoil lugs and the trigger area will accommodate most aftermarket triggers.

A serrated barricade stop has been added to the front of the magazine well and a polymer fore-end grip at the balance point adds comfort. The wide fore-grip area combined with the octagonal profiled for-end tube offers flexible options when shooting over bags or improvised rests. Thumb shelves have been added to both side of the chassis for shooters who prefer an open grip.

MDT ESS Chassis System Grip

The most significant change is the incorporation of the ESS specific butt-stock interface, rather than the traditional AR pattern interface.  This allows us to place the pistol grip in optimum relation to the trigger, while still allowing the shooter to choose from the wide variety of AR pattern pistol grips which suit their preference.

MDT ESS Chassis Stock – The MDT ESS chassis comes with it’s own butt-stock, similar to our Skeleton Rifle Stock. It is fully adjustable including lateral adjustment for the butt-pad and the cheek rest.  Cheek rest height and butt-pad length-of-pull are adjustable by thumb wheels.

Action specific scope mounting rails which co-index with the fore-end rail are available as an accessory.

MDT ESS Chassis Mounting And Compatible Accessories

GRS BOLTHORN CHASSIS | GRS STOCKS

GRS STOCKS BOLTHORN RIFLE CHASSIS SYSTEM

In 2012 straight from Norway Tikkashooters.com began importing GRS Stocks. The introduction was met with typical groans of expensive and ugly. Undeterred GRS stayed the course made some changes to appease American long range rifle shooters. I think the GRS laminated stocks are some of the best looking in their class. I also think the GRS Bolthorn Chassis System is butt ugly. Remember though form must follow function. This quote to me speaks of the quality and attention to detail.

The balance of this stock is superb. This is proven by being able to balance a fully equipped rifle on its muzzle.

The ultimate in long-range prone shooting, the GRS Bolthorn Chassis is superbly balanced and featured. With GRS Stocks advanced understanding of recoil management, the GRS Bolthorn keeps the line of recoil as close to the core line of the barrel as possible, resulting in unsurpassed recoil absorption and greater accuracy.

Fully equipped with rails, sling mounts, magazine and GRS’ well-known adjustability of cheek-piece, length of pull, and height of recoil pad, the GRS Bolthorn comes ready-to-go as an advanced shooting platform.

The balance of this stock is superb. This is proven by being able to balance a fully equipped rifle on its muzzle.

The stock is designed so the line of the recoil is as close to the core line of the barrel as possible. this means excellent recoil absorption and greater accuracy.

The Bolthorn Chassis comes fully equipped from GRS with all rails, sling mounts, either a 5 or 10 round magazine (Accuracy International AICS compatible magazine well) and of course or famous adjustability on length of pull, cheek piece and height of the recoil pad, all done with a touch of a button.

The grip is fixed on a rail, so you can adjust the distance from the grip to the trigger, giving perfect finger placement.

In most cases it is a matter of dropping the action into the stock and torque up the action screws, then off to the range. (Howa needs a light change on the action to fit the Accuracy International magazines)

The Sisk Tactical Adaptive Rifle (SISK STAR RIFLE) offers professional and competitive shooters something they’ve never experienced before – a take-down rifle with near-infinite adaptability featuring adjustment points at the butt, comb and wrist for customizable, ergonomic performance in any shooting situation imaginable.

Sisk Star Rifle Chassis

Sisk Star Rifle Chassis

Standard straight-stocked rifles aren’t designed to fit a single shooter well; they’re designed to fit every shooter just good enough. In truth, a stock should be adaptable – not only to the shooter’s body, but also his shooting form and every field situation he finds himself in. No other rifle on the market has ever met such demanding criteria – until now.

Thanks to a unique, patent-pending STAR mechanism at the rifle’s wrist, the stock rotates radially along a fixed axis. This finely adjustable joint allows the shooter to dial in a custom cast-on or cast-off fit for maximum cheek weld, or rotate the butt stock 360 degrees to clear obstacles or barriers.

Sisk Star Rifle Chassis Forend

Other adjustment points on the STAR include a height-adjustable comb with clearly defined index markings for easily repeatability when switching between shooters, and an adaptive butt pad that not only adjusts for length-of-pull, but also rotates 360 degrees to perfectly fit each individual shooter’s shoulder pocket or preferred shooting form.

The STAR stock is milled from aircraft-grade aluminum for rigid strength, creating the most adaptive, most accurate shooting platform available. For easier portability and discrete transport, the buttstock and forend separate at the STAR joint.

This truly unique, fully customizable SISK STAR CHASSIS is fitted with a milled SISK RIFLE receiver that’s been hand-tuned by master riflemaker Charlie Sisk to deliver the tightest groups possible. Charlie prides himself in not only building the most accurate rifles available, but also building relationships with customers that last a lifetime.

Cadex Field Tactical Chassis – Recently I happened to come across a “new to me” firearm and firearm hardware oriented website called Eurooptic located in Montoursville PA. Eurooptic is definitely a bit different than typical shooting parts and accessories websites.

Anyhow because the Cadex Chassis is close to my heart they happen to stock quite a few variants. Click here to see for yourself. Eurooptic will be the source of a Cadex Chassis for an upcoming XM2010 (Remington M2010) project
