MDT HS3 Modular Rifle Chassis System

Modular Driven Technologies MDT HS3 Rifle Chassis System – One of the things about running forums, websites and blogs is we often get to test a companies web based customer service. To us that is an important detail in 2015.  If your going to have an online business website that  contains a contact email, contact form or help desk system you sure as heck better use it. Shooters expect a response. It’s your business past and present to lose. Anyhow every now and then you run into folks that exceed expectations. Folks like Roger of Forward Controls Design, Josh at Criterion Barrels and now Maarten at Modular Driven Technologies who take the time to answer all your questions and then some. That type of support and service makes it easy for them to separate a shooter from their hard earned dollars.

Based on my recent dealings it’s been a pleasure to re-launch this site with my initial focus on projects based on MDT products.  This time the Modular Driven Technologies MDT HS3, right hand for  Remington 700 BDL 22-250

Improve accuracy and ergonomics with our HS3 Chassis system. The HS3 is a light (2.2lb) chassis system for bolt action rifles that allows use of AR-15 buttstocks and grips to suit your needs. It is machined from 6061 aluminum, hard anodized and finished with black or FDE side panels for color, grip and feel.

Our HS3 (Hunter/Sniper) Chassis series is a combination of benchrest accuracy, superior ergonomics and specialized design. The new HS3 chassis brings your
bolt action rifle to the next level in versatility and ergonomics, with an instant improvement in accuracy. The chassis itself is only 2.47lb / 1.4kg and was designed based on customer feedback who wanted longer fore ends (3″ longer than our LSS), and use fixed rifle stocks (as compared to our LSS chassis which was designed for compact use with collapsible stocks)

The drop-in chassis serves as a base to which the operator can add tactical components according to the desired functionality. The stock is manufactured
out of aluminum, hard anodized to mil spec type III, and has durable Polymer side panels which can be ordered in black or Flat Dark Earth (FDE).

This chassis was designed to accept Fixed AR-15 butt-stocks and non-beavertail pistol grips. The kit does not include shoulder butt-stock and pistol grip or magazines, offering the option to customize from the wide variety available on the market.

The HS3 chassis uses AICS style magazine in .223 and .308 caliber for short action systems, and 300WM, 30.06 or .338LM for long action systems, and supports
installation of bolt on MIL-STN-1913 accessory mounting rails on the bottom and sides of the fore-end. Spacers are required to mount side rails. The mounting holes are spaced for Magpul style L5 (11 slots) and L3 (7 slots) rails (1.600” / 3.200”).

The rifle action only makes contact with the HS3 chassis on the V shape bedding and recoil lug area insuring the best accuracy and repeatability. The generous clearance on the fore-end makes any barrel up to the size of the action itself free floated

  • Weight: 1.4kg – 2.47lb
  • Designed for AR-15 fixed butt-stocks including our Skeleton Rifle Stock.
  • Accepts any AR-15 grip, without a beavertail.
  • Fits AICS / AM Magazines in .223 and .308 (SA), .300WM and .338LM (LA)
  • Polymer sides in Black or Flat Dark Earth (FDE)

Mcrees G5 G7 Rifle Stock System | Rifle Chassis System

Mcrees G5 G7 Rifle Stock System – Another hat tip to Josh at Criterion Barrels for letting us know about the existence of Mcree’s Precision. Best we can tell the difference between the G5 and G7 series is the G7 series includes an anti-cant device (level). Typically we add a US Optics Fixed Anti-Cant Device to our precision rifles. Nice to see it integral on a rifle chassis. We will own one soon.

American Defense AD-RECON-S Scope Mount

Rifle Scope Mount – American Defense AD-RECON-S

American Defense AD-RECON-S Scope Mount – As mentioned on the MDT TAC21 page we were on the fence with scope mounts for the project. We really wanted to go with the SPUHR but the cost was beyond our budget and we figured for most others as well.  In the end we chose the American Defense AD-RECON-S Scope Mount for a few simple reasons. The first reason is they have a relationship with our friends at Criterion Barrels. Relationships are important to us. Reason two, we recently purchased a B&T Industries ATLAS PSR BIPOD BT46-LW17 and it included an American Defense ADM 170-S QD base for attaching to a picatinney rail. The ADM QD system utilizes a lever locking system reminiscent of the BOBRO QD mounts though not as refined. We were pleased enough with that mount that we wanted to get our hands on a.n ADM SCOPE MOUNT for evaluation. Lastly the mount has a lot of surface area to hold the scope and is visually appealing and actually has a look that goes well with the MDT TAC21.

US Optics Anti Cant Device

US Optics Anti Cant Device

We like to run the US Optics Fixed Anti-Cant Device on our precision firearms.

A note on the cost of the SPUHR. It’s not really an apples to apples comparison to any other scope mount. The SPUHR is $410 but it includes an integral level and the ability to accept  bolt on accessories for additional sighting options.

American Defense QD Autolock Instructions

Rifle Basix Remington ERV-3 K Trigger Installed, Remington 700

Rifle Basix Remington ERV-3 K Trigger

Rifle Basix Remington ERV-3 K Trigger Installed

Rifle Basix Remington ERV-3 K Trigger Installed

Rifle Basix Remington ERV-3 K Trigger

Rifle Basix Remington ERV-3 K Trigger Installed – A Rifle Basix Remington ERV-3 K trigger kit installed in a brand new Remington 700 barreled action. It was quite easy to install.  I have seen images that show the trigger kit in pieces. The trigger kit actually comes fully assembled and held together with plastic retainers. The included directions pictures were unreadable. Rifle Basix should do a better job with the instructions. There’s a good video on youtube of a 3d rendering of the installation. Most steps are irrelevant though due to the trigger being fully assembled and utilizing the Rifle Basix safety rather than the Remington. 5-7oz pull from the factory.

For folks not used to a premium low pull weight trigger your shots need to be very methodical and of course careful. THIS IS NOT A HUNTING TRIGGER, it’s a precision target trigger. Do not let others shoot your rifle without proper training and instruction. keep the muzzle in a safe direction. Keep the weapon unloaded until your in the shooting position.

  1. Finger off trigger
  2. Bolt back
  3. Apply Safety
  4. Gently close bolt
  5. Get on target
  6. Turn off safety
  7. Pull the trigger
  8. Finger off the trigger
  9. Repeat from the top

Do not close the bolt with the safety off. The firearm can fire from the jarring, vibration and the inertia of simply moving the firearm.
