Ruger Precision Rifle Review – The Precision Rifle’s upper receiver and one-piece bolt body are CNC-machined from pre-hardened 4140 chrome/molybdenum alloy steel. The lower receiver is machined in two pieces, right and left halves, from 7075-T6 hard-coat anodized aluminum. That method simplifies manufacture, allows more precise control of machining in the magazine well and makes assembly of small components easier as they can be placed in position in one half before the other half is attached.
Offered at this time in three short-action chamberings, the rifle is available in .308. Win. with a 20″ barrel, 6.5 mm Creedmoor with a 24″ barrel and .243 Win. with a 26″ barrel. The weights vary by chambering, but with the lightest model starting at 9.7 lbs. sans optic, the Precision Rifle is not a light firearm. The evaluation gun provided by Ruger was chambered in 6.5 mm Creedmoor and—after being furnished with a scope, bipod and stock-mounted monopod—tipped the scales at just over 15 lbs.
MDT HS3 Remington 700 Chassis – The MDT HS3 Remington 700 Chassis system is a solid chassis system manufactured from billet 6061-T6 Aluminum, which has been hard anodized for additional strength. The v-shaped bedding ensures maximum accuracy and repeatability. The fore end allows barrels as large as the size of the rifle action and has a total length of 15″ from the trigger. (Which is 3″ longer than our popular LSS chassis system). The chassis is designed to take any AR-15 butt stock and Pistol grip and accepts MDT polymer magazines or any AICS profile magazine. The chassis is finished with Polymer side panels for color, grip and feel.
MDT TAC21 Rifle Chassis System is precision in and out. Flawless manufacturing, fit and finish. No interference from the Cerakote. Holes are cut clean and straight. Threads are cut clean. The pieces all go together precisely without forcing while retaining a tight fit. Make no mistake this is a piece of heavy duty gear which is not readily apparent in internet pictures.
MDT TAC21 20 inch Suppressed Modular Rifle – I decided to kick off the relaunch of this site with an entry level project of readily available hardware, nothing custom. As a barreled action I decided to use a Remington Model 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD rifle at a cost of $650. The Remington Model 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD has a threaded muzzle to accept an AAC-SD Sound Suppressor. I just happen to have an AAC 762-SDN-6 on hand.

MDT HS3 – Improve accuracy and ergonomics with our HS3 Chassis system. The HS3 is a light (2.2lb) chassis system for bolt action rifles that allows use of AR-15 buttstocks and grips to suit your needs. Today we are on the precipice of great changes to the bolt action rifle.. Almost weekly some rifle chassis manufacturer or traditional firearm manufacturer announces a new rifle chassis system or a complete rifle built upon a chassis. The chassis eliminates the wood stock formerly used in bolt action rifles. The chassis in many ways are making bolt action rifles more AR-15 or AR-10 like. In fact many rifle chassis utilize AR stocks, pistol grips, scope mounts and any other picatinney rail mounted hardware you can imagine.
The changes do not end theres. Taking a play from Savage some clever folks are adapting Savage drop-in barrels to Remington 700 receivers. This method is called “Remage”. There are currently 3rd party Remington 700 action clones designed for Savage barrels. Not to be beaten at it’s own game several of Remington sniper rifles such as the PSR, MSR and CSR feature quick change barrels that look similar to that of an AR-15. It’s a matter of time before a modular quick change barrel system like that makes it to consumer rifles. We are seeing bolts that feature the best locking methods of all firearms combined in to bolts. These new rifle chassis are also in some cases allowing users to choose the type of magazine whether AR-15, AR 308 or AICS.
The future is also here with ammunition. Despite an emotional debate of purists in love with the .308 Winchester and it’s long proven history 6.5 Creedmoor is poised to be the long range accuracy cartridge king. If the military adopts 6.5 Creedmoor and brings the ammo cost down that will be a game changing moment for shooters and snipers alike.
The purpose of this site is to keep up with these changes for a future, current and historical perspective.
