Remington Model 700 Magpul 6.5 Creedmoor
The Remington Model 700 Magpul 6.5 Creedmoor Rifle is a bold move from Remington in a few ways. The first being the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge caliber. Many felt that Remington would never offer 6.5CM because it is too similar to .260 Remington. Fortunately that theory was incorrect. Remington wisely sees the writing on the wall and recognizes that 6.5 Creedmoor is not a passing fad and is poised to be a game changer in long range accuracy and power. Remington also recognizes there’s money to be made in a modern Remington Model 700 Rifle.
The next bold move is the offering of a factory rifle that features the Magpul Hunter modular chassis. First off traditional hunters may not recognize or be familiar with Magpul but AR-15, AR-10 and 308 AR shooters are. Magpul is a staple brand offering some of the best magazines and stocks in the business. Magpul is a breath of fresh air to the bolt action rifle. The Magpul hunter stock is like a bolt action rifle version of the Magpul PRS AR stock. This is a good thing and it’s a big step away from standard Bell & Carlson synthetic rifle stocks offered by Remington for decades.
The adoption of the Magpul stock brings with it the ability for a Remington 700 factory rifle to use Accuracy International “AICS” type magazines. These are the standard among most sniper rifles and rifle chassis. Magpul AICS magazines are very inexpensive.
Remington Ultimate Sheep Rifle Build
Building the lightest and strongest rifle possible
In March, KUIU founder Jason Hairston visited the Remington Custom Shop in Sturgis, South Dakota, where we presented him with a number of options for each component that will comprise the Ultimate Sheep Rifle. We discussed the pros and cons of each with regards to Hairston’s wants and needs for the gun. After hours of deliberation, here’s where we landed.
Remington Ultimate Sheep Rifle Action – Remington 700 Titanium; 8 oz.
Hairston opted for a titanium Model 700 action in 6.5 Creedmoor (more on the caliber choice in a future post). Remington’s custom titanium actions are so precisely machined, to such tight tolerances, that secondary blueprinting—a step required of nearly any factory action—is not necessary. The bolt will feature an M-16 extractor and dual ejectors, as well as a Badger Ordnance Mini Knob.

J.Allen JAE 700 Rifle Chassis System
The precision rifle world is awash in slick and high quality gear, but no chassis is more beautifully made or offers the features of the J. Allen Enterprises JAE-700 rifle chassis system. The most compelling feature is the adjustable magazine retention system that allows the shooter to bounce back and forth between AICS pattern and AW (Arctic Warfare) magazines. No chassis will better pair the AW double-stack magazine with a two-lug action than the JAE-700.

Customers frequently comment about the adjustable ergonomic design which is singularly unique when compared to a traditional rifle stock and contributes to reducing felt recoil. These features allow shooters better control, shot follow through and enhanced long range accuracy across the entire caliber range from small to large caliber including the 50 BMG. You can upgrade nearly any sub-assembly and most individual components of the chassis using a common family of accessories on your home workbench or with the assistance of a trusted gunsmith. MOSSBERG MVP LC RIFLE
The Mossberg MVP LC combines the accurate MVP Rifle Platform with a lightweight MDT LSS Chassis, Magpul Stock, and an optional Vortex Optics Viper HS-T Rifle Scope.
Today we are on the precipice of great changes to the bolt action rifle.. Almost weekly some rifle chassis manufacturer or traditional firearm manufacturer announces a new rifle chassis system or a complete rifle built upon a chassis. The chassis eliminates the wood stock formerly used in bolt action rifles. The chassis in many ways are making bolt action rifles more AR-15 or AR-10 like. In fact many rifle chassis utilize AR stocks, pistol grips, scope mounts and any other picatinney rail mounted hardware you can imagine.
The changes do not end theres. Taking a play from Savage some clever folks are adapting Savage drop-in barrels to Remington 700 receivers. This method is called “Remage”. There are currently 3rd party Remington 700 action clones designed for Savage barrels. Not to be beaten at it’s own game several of Remington sniper rifles such as the PSR, MSR and CSR feature quick change barrels that look similar to that of an AR-15. It’s a matter of time before a modular quick change barrel system like that makes it to consumer rifles. We are seeing bolts that feature the best locking methods of all firearms combined in to bolts. These new rifle chassis are also in some cases allowing users to choose the type of magazine whether AR-15, AR 308 or AICS.
The future is also here with ammunition. Despite an emotional debate of purists in love with the .308 Winchester and it’s long proven history 6.5 Creedmoor is poised to be the long range accuracy cartridge king. If the military adopts 6.5 Creedmoor and brings the ammo cost down that will be a game changing moment for shooters and snipers alike.
The purpose of this site is to keep up with these changes for a future, current and historical perspective.
