MDT HS3 Modular Rifle Chassis System

Modular Driven Technologies MDT HS3 Rifle Chassis System – One of the things about running forums, websites and blogs is we often get to test a companies web based customer service. To us that is an important detail in 2015.  If your going to have an online business website that  contains a contact email, contact form or help desk system you sure as heck better use it. Shooters expect a response. It’s your business past and present to lose. Anyhow every now and then you run into folks that exceed expectations. Folks like Roger of Forward Controls Design, Josh at Criterion Barrels and now Maarten at Modular Driven Technologies who take the time to answer all your questions and then some. That type of support and service makes it easy for them to separate a shooter from their hard earned dollars.

Based on my recent dealings it’s been a pleasure to re-launch this site with my initial focus on projects based on MDT products.  This time the Modular Driven Technologies MDT HS3, right hand for  Remington 700 BDL 22-250

Improve accuracy and ergonomics with our HS3 Chassis system. The HS3 is a light (2.2lb) chassis system for bolt action rifles that allows use of AR-15 buttstocks and grips to suit your needs. It is machined from 6061 aluminum, hard anodized and finished with black or FDE side panels for color, grip and feel.

Our HS3 (Hunter/Sniper) Chassis series is a combination of benchrest accuracy, superior ergonomics and specialized design. The new HS3 chassis brings your
bolt action rifle to the next level in versatility and ergonomics, with an instant improvement in accuracy. The chassis itself is only 2.47lb / 1.4kg and was designed based on customer feedback who wanted longer fore ends (3″ longer than our LSS), and use fixed rifle stocks (as compared to our LSS chassis which was designed for compact use with collapsible stocks)

The drop-in chassis serves as a base to which the operator can add tactical components according to the desired functionality. The stock is manufactured
out of aluminum, hard anodized to mil spec type III, and has durable Polymer side panels which can be ordered in black or Flat Dark Earth (FDE).

This chassis was designed to accept Fixed AR-15 butt-stocks and non-beavertail pistol grips. The kit does not include shoulder butt-stock and pistol grip or magazines, offering the option to customize from the wide variety available on the market.

The HS3 chassis uses AICS style magazine in .223 and .308 caliber for short action systems, and 300WM, 30.06 or .338LM for long action systems, and supports
installation of bolt on MIL-STN-1913 accessory mounting rails on the bottom and sides of the fore-end. Spacers are required to mount side rails. The mounting holes are spaced for Magpul style L5 (11 slots) and L3 (7 slots) rails (1.600” / 3.200”).

The rifle action only makes contact with the HS3 chassis on the V shape bedding and recoil lug area insuring the best accuracy and repeatability. The generous clearance on the fore-end makes any barrel up to the size of the action itself free floated

Modular Driven Technologies TAC21 Chassis FDE

As promised I am now the proud owner of a Modular Driven Technologies TAC 21 Chassis in Flat Dark Earth. Quite surprised to receive the chassis so quickly. It arrived before I finished ordering the rest of the parts for the project. I received the chassis with one AICS magazine manufactured by MDT. First look was a jaw dropper. The construction and finish are nothing short of impeccable. I could not visually locate a single flaw on the chassis or in the finish of the chassis. Im hopeful that the assembling will be equally as pleasing and form follows function.

As an update to the project another decision have been made. I will with 100% certainty be utilizing an Atlas BT46-LW17  Bipod. The Modular Driven Technologies TAC21 stock has been narrowed down to a Magpul PRS, Magpul UBR, ERGO F93 PRO Stock or Command Arms Advanced Sniper Stock.

MDT TAC 21 Remington 700 Chassis System Details

The MDT TAC21 chassis system a combination of benchrest accuracy, superior ergonomics and specialized design. This chassis brings the bolt action rifles to the next level in versatility and modularity, with an instant improvement in accuracy.

The chassis system is manufactured out of billet 6061-T6 aluminum, which has been hard anodized to mil spec type III for extra strenth, and has been finished with Cerakote™ in Black or Flat Dark Earth (FDE).

MDT TAC21 chassis is engineered to minimize warping and distortion. The rifle receiver only makes contact with the TAC21™ chassis on the V shape bedding and recoil lug area insuring the best accuracy and repeatability. The generous clearance on the fore-end makes any barrel (diameter up to the receiver size – 1.350”), free floating.

Inherently the TAC21™ has a straightline design, meaning that the recoil comes straight back instead of making the front of the rifle kick upwards. This results in more accurate and quicker follow up shots. This also translates to a decrease in felt recoil and comfort.

Remington 700 MDT TAC 21 Chassis System Compatibility

The TAC21™ chassis system is currently manufactured for the following bolt action rifle platforms:

  • Remington 700 Short Action (.223 and .308 bolt faces)

Aluminum chassis system anchors a Remington 700 barreled action in a V-shaped bedding block for a rock solid mounting that helps ensure consistent accuracy. Combines the accuracy of a benchrest rifle with the familiar ergonomics of the AR-15/M16 platform. Straight-line design directs recoil force directly to the rear, dramatically reducing muzzle rise and time to get back on target for follow-up shots. Bottom metal is configured to accept detachable box magazines, available separately. Integral Picatinny rail above the receiver provides an ultra-stable scope platform with built-in 20 MOA elevation for extended-range shooting. Accepts any AR-15 pistol grip, receiver extension tube, and buttstock to increase the rifle’s versatility by mounting a variety of popular AR-15 accessories. MDT LSS Chassis System Critical Details

Howa 1500 / Weatherby Vanguard Actions

This is the only action that we manufacture a chassis for, that has a flat bottom action. For this reason only our Polymer magazines will work. The fitting may need to be modified slightly for proper feeding.
For .223 models the bolt stop may be too long. This can easily be modified.

Savage models 10/110 11/111 12/112 16/116

For rifles with the bolt release at the bottom, the bolt release can be engaged through the side of the chassis, using a pin or tool. (Not included)

Tikka T3 – Long Calibers

Only our Metal 3.56 magazine will fit with the chassis for this action and needs to be purchased separately.

Savage Axis

The original recoil lug that comes with the rifle is required for installation into the chassis.

Ruger American and Ruger Scout

Both these actions have the action screw located directly above the magazine lever. This means that the magazine lever needs to be installed AFTER installing the action into the chassis. Detailed instructions are provided, and an installation video can be found here.

MDT LSS Chassis System Dimensions

Dimensions shown are based on Remington Model 700 Short Action. Note that this versions shows the use of the Skeleton Rifle Stock with a fixed stock adapter. So it can be shorted significantly using a carbine (collapsible) buttstock. If you prefer using a fixed rifle stock, take a look at the MDT LSS-XL chassis.
