MDT TAC 21 Remington 700 Chassis System Inbound
The MDT TAC21™ chassis system a combination of benchrest accuracy, superior ergonomics and specialized design. This chassis brings the bolt action rifles to the next level in versatility and modularity, with an instant improvement in accuracy.
The chassis system is manufactured out of billet 6061-T6 aluminum, which has been hard anodized to mil spec type III for extra strenth, and has been finished with Cerakote™ in Black or Flat Dark Earth (FDE).
TAC21™ chassis is engineered to minimize warping and distortion. The rifle receiver only makes contact with the TAC21™ chassis on the V shape bedding and recoil lug area insuring the best accuracy and repeatability. The generous clearance on the fore-end makes any barrel (diameter up to the receiver size – 1.350”), free floating.
Inherently the TAC21™ has a straightline design, meaning that the recoil comes straight back instead of making the front of the rifle kick upwards. This results in more accurate and quicker follow up shots. This also translates to a decrease in felt recoil and comfort.
Surgeon Rifles Short Action Receiver
So you want to build your dream bolt gun, the ultimate precision rifle but do not know where to start? One path would be like I have done. Go out purchase a Remington 700 Rifle or Barreled action. Throw away the most of the factory Remington parts, get the action blueprinted, new bolt know welded on etc or you can simply start out right and purchase a Surgeon Rifles Short Action Receiver 591SA Repeater. There is probably no better foundation than the Surgeon Rifles Short Action Receiver 591SA Repeater and while the price is steep the cost is probably a wash compared to the custom Remington 700. In fact the Surgeon Rifles Short Action Receiver 591SA Repeater will probably be cheaper and definitely superior to the Remington 700.
PMAG® 10 7.62 AC – AICS Short Action
AICS is the acronym used to describe the Accuracy International Chassis System for the Remington 700 Model Rifle. It was designed by and for competitive shooters for for long range competition and military applications. One of the biggest drawbacks of the AICS has been the cost of the magazines at well over $100. Well that is about to change. Magpul has once again done what they do best and introduced a magazine, the PMAG® 10 7.62 AC – AICS Short Action. If the PMAG® 10 7.62 AC – AICS Short Action proves reliable in the field it will no doubt at $35 be a game changer for Remington 700 and AICS shooters. Modularrifle.com

Today we are on the precipice of great changes to the bolt action rifle.. Almost weekly some rifle chassis manufacturer or traditional firearm manufacturer announces a new rifle chassis system or a complete rifle built upon a chassis. The chassis eliminates the wood stock formerly used in bolt action rifles. The chassis in many ways are making bolt action rifles more AR-15 or AR-10 like. In fact many rifle chassis utilize AR stocks, pistol grips, scope mounts and any other picatinney rail mounted hardware you can imagine.
The changes do not end theres. Taking a play from Savage some clever folks are adapting Savage drop-in barrels to Remington 700 receivers. This method is called “Remage”. There are currently 3rd party Remington 700 action clones designed for Savage barrels. Not to be beaten at it’s own game several of Remington sniper rifles such as the PSR, MSR and CSR feature quick change barrels that look similar to that of an AR-15. It’s a matter of time before a modular quick change barrel system like that makes it to consumer rifles. We are seeing bolts that feature the best locking methods of all firearms combined in to bolts. These new rifle chassis are also in some cases allowing users to choose the type of magazine whether AR-15, AR 308 or AICS.
The future is also here with ammunition. Despite an emotional debate of purists in love with the .308 Winchester and it’s long proven history 6.5 Creedmoor is poised to be the long range accuracy cartridge king. If the military adopts 6.5 Creedmoor and brings the ammo cost down that will be a game changing moment for shooters and snipers alike.
The purpose of this site is to keep up with these changes for a future, current and historical perspective.
