Surgeon Rifles Short Action Receiver 591SA Repeater

So you want to build your dream bolt gun, the ultimate precision rifle but do not know where to start? One path would be like I have  done. Go out purchase a Remington 700 Rifle or Barreled action. Throw away the most of the factory Remington parts, get the action blueprinted, new bolt know welded on etc or you can simply start out right  and purchase a Surgeon Rifles Short Action Receiver 591SA Repeater. There is probably no better foundation than the Surgeon Rifles Short Action Receiver 591SA Repeater and while the price is steep the cost is probably a wash compared to the custom Remington 700. In fact the Surgeon Rifles Short Action Receiver 591SA Repeater will probably be cheaper and definitely superior to the Remington 700.

Below is the description from Brownells. They sum it up nicely as do the Brownells Reviews at their site.

Complete short-action receiver and bolt assembly give the reliability and smoothness of the classic Remington 700 action combined with innovative features designed specifically for police, military, and civilian precision shooters. Receiver is machined, not forged, to exceptionally tight tolerances from a solid billet of 4340 steel for precise dimensions and superb strength. Raceways are EDM-cut to be perfectly square with the receiver face, threads, and bolt locking lug surfaces. A rail in the left raceway eliminates misfeeds caused by a shell getting stuck in the raceway, and the extended ejection port ensures plenty of clearance for fired cases. Full-length, 20 M.O.A. MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail milled into the receiver top offers exceptional scope mounting flexibility and stays perfectly aligned with the action centerline and barrel tenon threads because it can’t work loose or get misaligned by impact. Hefty ¼” thick recoil lug machined into the underside spreads recoil force over a larger area than standard lugs. Bolt is machined from a single piece of 4140 steel billet, including .308 (.473″ diameter) breech face, extraction cam, and bolt handle; outside diameter and locking lugs are machined in a single operation, so the lugs are perfectly square with the bolt exterior. Bolt maintains a .007″ clearance out of battery, with .004″ clearance (.002″ per side) when closed. Streamlined, screw-on tactical bolt knob can be replaced with other aftermarket knobs to suit your needs. Shroud around the oversize bolt stop keeps out dust and dirt and prevents accidental release. All components are heat treated for hardness before final surface machining to prevent unwanted stress or warpage. Extractor, ejector, firing pin, shroud, and cocking piece are standard Remington 700 parts, and action accepts all triggers, stocks, and magazines compatible with the 700, greatly expanding customizing options.

PMAG® 10 7.62 AC – AICS Short Action – Magpul

AICS is the acronym used to describe the Accuracy International Chassis System for the Remington 700 Model Rifle. It was designed by and for competitive shooters for for long range competition and military applications. One of the biggest drawbacks of the AICS has been the cost of the magazines at well over $100. Well that is about to change. Magpul has once again done what they do best and introduced a magazine, the PMAG® 10 7.62 AC – AICS Short Action. If the PMAG® 10 7.62 AC – AICS Short Action proves reliable in the field it will no doubt at $35 be a game changer for Remington 700 and AICS shooters.

Remington Model 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD

I decided to kick off the relaunch of this site with an entry-level project of readily available hardware, nothing custom.  As a barreled action, I decided to use a Remington Model 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD rifle at the cost of $650.  The Remington Model 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD has a threaded muzzle to accept an AAC-SD Sound Suppressor, and I happen to have an AAC 762-SDN-6 on hand.

Pillar bedded Ghillie Green Hogue over-molded stock. The heavy contour barrel has a 5/8-24 inch threaded muzzle to accept all AAC suppressors, flash hiders, muzzle brakes, and other manufacturers of similar accessories. The rate of twist, laser-etched on the barrel, is optimized at 1:10 inches to stabilize 168 to 220-grain bullets and sub-sonic loads. X-Mark Pro externally adjustable trigger is set at the factory at 3 1/2 pounds with a 2-pound range of adjustment.

Remington XM2010 Army Sniper System Now In Stores

Remington XM2010 Army Sniper System

Confirmed Remington XM2010 Enhanced Sniper Rifle examples have made their way to stores. Remington has been teasing about this for some time now, that they would be making the XM2010 commercially available, and the resulting package is more than anyone could have hoped for.
Being a sniper system, it includes more than just a rifle. It includes one Enhanced Sniper Rifle chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum, effective out to 1,500 yards, one Leupold MKIV ERT 6.5-20x riflescope with an H-58 reticle and Badger Ordnance rings, a five-round detachable magazine, a Harris bipod, and lastly, an Advanced Armament Corp. (AAC) TiTAN suppressor and quick-detach muzzle brake combo. All this comes packed in not one but two cases, one soft inside one hard, which also includes a deployment kit and a cleaning kit.

All this can be yours for the low, low price of just $17,000. That’s not a typo, opening bids start at $17,000, and that’s at the low end, with other shops pricing them at $18,000. (The optics and the can alone are worth about $4,000.) That does not include the $200 tax stamp for the suppressor.
Other specifications of the XM2010 are that it weighs 12.1 pounds, is 46.5 inches long without the suppressor, and is 52 inches long with, has a totally free-floated 22-inch barrel and quad-railed handguard, has a completely adjustable buttstock, and it uses AR-15 grips and trigger guards.

Obviously, the exclusivity here is the XM2010’s major selling point. This is the rifle the US Army’s snipers use, and these examples are contract overruns of that very exclusive contract. (Let’s hope they’re overruns and not the rifles that cannot meet the military’s 1 MOA or less at 200 yards requirement. Don’t worry, we’re joking; they’re guaranteed accurate.)

But you could do a whole lot for $17,000 (plus $200 for the tax stamp), not the least of which is make a comparable rifle with easily seven grand left over. Don’t take this the wrong way. The XM2010 is a phenomenally beautiful rifle. We’re thrilled that something this modern is getting into the hands of our troops. We hope the military isn’t spending $17,000 apiece on these, either.
